The glazed terrace tile made of porcelain stoneware is characterized by its special concrete look. Due to its stability, the tile is primarily used on terraces and balconies and is usually laid on floors. Thanks to its frost protection, it can be used outside without any concerns. Various types of installation are possible, such as loose laying on chippings, grass, gravel or on pedestals as well as classic gluing. This creates many design options.
Advantages of the terrace tile:
- Easy care: Since porcelain stoneware is highly resistant to acids, the terrace tile is very easy to maintain. Among other things, you can use citric acid or vinegar. This can be used to easily remove rust or limescale, for example. In most cases, the tiles can be cleaned with warm water because they are dirt-repellent. This makes the tiles very hygienic.
- Moisture resistance: In the production of the terrace tile, the materials are finely ground and then melted together. Due to their high melting point, they can be almost completely combined. The materials are then pressed under very high pressure. For these reasons, porcelain stoneware tiles can hardly absorb any liquid and are therefore almost waterproof.
- Frost resistance: Due to the low water absorption of the tile, it is frost-proof when installed professionally. This makes them ideal for laying on balconies and terraces.
- Abrasion group 4: The tile is suitable for areas subject to heavy wear. This includes floor coverings in kitchens, hallways, living rooms, offices, or terraces.
- Slip resistance: The terrace tile has the slip resistance group R11. This means that it has an increased coefficient of static friction. The tile is therefore slip-proof for angles of inclination of 19-27° and is suitable for areas where there is a risk of slipping. These include swimming pools, showers, or laundry rooms.
- Barefoot area: The tile is suitable for the barefoot area of Group C. This means a minimum tilt angle of 24°. That's why tiles with this property are suitable for ladders and stairs that lead into the water and the edge of the pool.
- Longevity: The material of the tile is scratch-resistant and fire-resistant. It is also resistant to bacteria, viruses, fungi and mold.
Edge processing:
- Rectified: The terrace tile is pressed into shape during production. This creates a slightly angled edge. In rare cases these edges are uniform. Therefore, they are processed with a diamond saw during the rectification process. Many uneven areas can be removed and an edge with a 90° angle is created. This process makes it possible to lay the tiles with very small joints starting at 2mm.
Surface treatment:
- Glazed: By applying a glass-like compound to the surface of the tile, a smooth but also slip-resistant surface is achieved. The glaze also serves as a protective layer for the tiles. This is particularly suitable for tiles on walls and floors in living areas.
